Despite all the national and international protests, Chevron is launching these days the first project in Romania to extract shale gas through hydraulic fracturing, in Pungești, Vaslui county with the support of the Romanian Gendarmerie and corrupt politicians.
In the next two months, with the support of Pungești mayor, Vlasă Mircia (Social-Democratic Party – PSD), Chevron intends to install a shale gas well right on the land of the mayor from Pungești. Documents brought to public attention on how the mayor came into possession of the leased land to Chevron did not impressed Chevron who is determined not to leave Romania at this time.
