EXCLUSIVE. How my books were stolen at the international conference ”The use of languages by local and regional authorities”, organized by Covasna County Council and the Council of Europe PHOTO

The president of the Covasna County Council, Tamas Sandor, member of RMDSZ, the main political organisation representing the ethnic Hungarians of Romania (UDMR in Romanian, DAHR in English), continues to make lying assertions about what happened at the international conference called ”The use of languages by local and regional authorities”, which took place on Thursday, May 31st, at Balvanyos resort in the presence of representatives of The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.

On Thursday, 31 May 2018, the international conference ”The use of languages by local and regional authorities”, organized by Covasna County Council, headed by Tamas Sandor, and the Council of Europe, was held in a Balvanyos resort, in the presence of representatives of The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. The international conference, which was attended by RMDSZ leader Kelemen Hunor, together with other RMDSZ leaders, constituted in fact a new opportunity for the RMDSZ leaders to defame the image of Romania in front of the representatives of the Council of Europe.
At this conference I participated together with MEP Cătălin Ivan, with whom I brought four boxes of books, the one I wrote and several copies of a brochure edited by the Civic Forum of Romanians from Covasna, Harghita and Mureș counties describing how Romania respects The European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages.
As crazy as it might sound, before I got a chance to share for free my books and the brochure, the four boxes with my books were stolen by the organizers and the people close to Tamas Sandor, the RMDSZ leader of Covasna County Council, one of the main organizers of the conference. Although both I and MEP Cătălin Ivan held talks with Tamas Sandor, the RMDSZ president of Covasna County Council, as well as Robert Gruman, RMDSZ Vice-President of Covasna County Council, asking them to return the books, the two refused to help us, falsely saying that all the books were distributed to the conference participants. In reality, the books were stolen, some of them were later discovered by police officers, whom I called to claim the theft, in a staff room of the hotel (details here) .
However, the RMDSZ leader Tamas Sandor continues to falsely assert that the four boxes with books have been distributed to the participants, repeatedly and publicly accusing me of intentionally provoking an incident at this international conference (the last such a statement was made by Tamas on October, 25th, at a press conference).
Because I can no longer tolerate the abject way in which I am insulted by the RMDSZ leader Tamas Sandor and because I can not tolerate the incitement to interethnic hatred that the RMDSZ leader Tamas Sandor, supported by the Hungarian language press in the county, promotes against me, but also to respond to the repeated actions of RMDSZ leader Tamas Sandor to discredit me, in order to defend my honor and dignity, I took the decision to make public captures of the video recordings that are evidence in the criminal file in this case. Unfortunately for the authors of the theft, two women and two men, but also the moral authors of the theft, mr. Tamas Sandor and mr. Robert Gruman, the moment of theft was caught on camera.
A copy of the video recordings of the theft are now in the case file at the Police. The court will establish the guilt of those involved and until then they benefit of the presumption of innocence.
However, in order to defend my honor and my dignity, I made the decision to make public information proving the gross lies of RMDSZ leader Tamas Sandor in this case as well as the unacceptable way in which the Hungarian language press in Covasna county irresponsibly promotes hate speech against me. These pictures show a real fact: four young people close to Covasna County Council leaders have stolen my books with the clear purpose of preventing me from giving these books free of charge to the participants at this international event.
